Our biggest glove ranges come from Windy, MAVINN and Arwut, with more from Fightlab, BOON Sport, Thai Battle, Sandee, OG Fightwear, MTM, Mongkol, Fairtex and Kanong. Prices run from around $52 for kids' gloves to premium pro gloves around $300.

Which glove weight do I need?

As a rule of thumb: 8 oz for competition (check your federation's rules), 10 oz for pad and bag work or smaller frames, 12 oz for all-round training, 14 oz for training and light sparring, and 16 oz as the sparring standard – heavier fighters usually go 16 oz. Our sizing guide has the full table.

Velcro or lace-up?

Velcro gloves go on and off by yourself and suit everyday training – for example the Sandee Cool-Tec Velcro, the BOON Sport BGVOG Classic Velcro or the Mavinn Heart of the Lion. Lace-up gloves give a tighter, more even wrist fit for sparring and fights but need a helper to tie: see the MTM Pro Lace Up, Arwut BG3 or Mongkol BGML02.

Leather, microfiber and PU

Cowhide leather gloves such as the Windy BGVH or the Fightlab Classic last longest and mould to your hand. Microfiber gloves like most MAVINN models are durable and easy to wipe clean, while PU gloves such as the Thai Battle PU Leather keep the price down.

Kids' and women's gloves

For young fighters there are the Thai Battle Kids gloves and Yuth Kids Gold. The Fairtex BGV20 is cut for women's hands. Don't forget hand wraps under your gloves, and shin guards for sparring.
